Asthma attacks can happen anytime. It results in difficulty in breathing and, if not treated immediately, may be fatal. Even then, asthma attacks can be prevented and managed as well. Here are some home remedies for asthma.
1. Stay calm
When asthma attacks, stay calm. With your eyes closed, inhale. Imagine that you’re lungs are expanding. You are now filling them with air. Exhale. Repeat this for a couple more times. Once your breathing stabilizes, you can take a cup of coffee or any caffeinated drinks to help open your airways. Caffeine contains a chemical substance called theophylline, known to help in dilating the air passages.
2. Have magnesium everyday
3.Omega-3 fatty acids
Consume foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Tuna, mackerel, salmon are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which stop the actions of body compounds that cause inflammation in the air passages. These compounds work much like asthma drugs known as leukotriene inhibitors.
Include turmeric in your list of alternative medicine. Turmeric expands blood vessels, and results to a better flow of air, relax muscle spasms, restores normal breathing patterns, thins the blood as well as relieves inflammation in the lungs caused by asthma. Drink a warm cup of turmeric three times a day to manage your condition.
5. Keep a record
Keep a record of everything that you take in for a month. Take note of any asthma symptoms and see whether there is any connection with what you are consuming with any change in the severity and frequency of your asthma attacks.
